B. Vasiliev “Not included in the lists”

The book’s main character is a young lieutenant Nikolai Pluzhnikov, who graduated from a military school on the eve of World War II and was sent to the Brest fortress. This is a responsible person – he did not want to stay in school because he believed that a real soldier should be on the front line.

In the first hours of the war, during the turmoil, Nikolai Pluzhnikov underwent numerous tests: hand-to-hand combat, a decrease in moral strength, and numerous deaths. He gradually realized the duty of a soldier, became a commander, went almost alone, left the catacombs, and destroyed the Nazis. The girl Mirra, who became his wife, accompanied him to battle as if to work and waited for him. When he had to surrender because the Nazis wanted to kill the man who had sent him, when he saw him, the Germans gave him the last credit as a lonely, loyal soldier who endured hunger, cold, fear of loneliness and fought for the end. Nikolay Pluzhnikov remained the winner.

  1. Vasiliev “Here, the sunrises are calm.”

The story tells how Petty Officer Fedot Vaskov, with a group of female fighters, pursued sixteen saboteurs who were on their way to take out the White Sea and the Baltic Canal. After the girls died, he was left alone. He was wounded in the arm. The only weapon was a revolver with the last cartridge, a knife, and a fuseless grenade. He felt that his troops were failing him, so he hurried to find the Germans. Vaskov tracked down the Germans and killed the sentry. The Germans fell asleep before the final launch. He ran to the cabin. The enemies couldn’t even think he was alone for miles. The saboteurs tied each other with straps. The foreman remembered the girls’ deaths and cried and yelled at the Germans. The hand ached incessantly, and chills began. The foreman was afraid of losing consciousness. I only thought of one thing: having time to shoot. Fedot Vaskov underwent such a serious condition. And only then did he lose consciousness when he heard the Russian speech.

  1. Alekseev’s “Festive lunch.”

The power of the mind manifests itself in difficult life situations, for example, in a military environment.

In besieged Leningrad, even children tried to resist. They understood that if you get discouraged, you will not survive. The boys looked forward to a three-course lunch every day. The children were happy to have a soup prepared for them: rapeseed puree, pine needle cutlets, and seaweed jelly with added saccharin. Each got a gram of sugar, and that was luck. Otherwise, it was impossible. They had the strength to think that rapeseed soup is delicious because it helps not to starve, pine needle cutlets are useful because they bring vitamins to the body, seaweed jelly, and even a gram of sugar – a very tasty drink.

  1. Astafiev “A fairy tale near and far.”

The power of the mind manifests in a person as the ability to endure pain, adversity, hunger, and thirst when necessary. In the story, the author recalls the hungry winter of 1933. Hungry grandparents gave their grandson the last bite. My grandmother had the strength to feel sorry for strays. She brought home a small, half-frozen, hungry puppy and fed him the rest of the milk. The cub survived, and the family overcame all the hardships of a hungry winter and reached spring with young grass.

  1. treated Astafiev’s “How the goddess.”

Uzbek soldier Abdrashitov was busy restoring the grenade-hit statue of the goddess in the liberated Polish mansion. Even during the shelling, he tried to fix it, and he did not hide from the shooting. He saw its former beauty in the destroyed statue and wanted to restore it at all costs. He didn’t care that there was war, he knew the war would end, and the goddess, if she survived, would delight the people. He believed in victory and the great power of beauty.
